False Water Cobras (Hydrodynastes gigas)

Found throughout South America, notably Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay. The name is an allusion to its ability to flatten its neck, similar to that of a true Cobra. However, unlike a true cobra, a FWC stays in a horizontal position when it hoods, rather than standing in a vertical position. It can also flatten further down its body, which is not possible for a true cobra. As a diurnal snake (active during the day), they're an active and inquisitive species. They are also rear-fanged (mildly venomous). We always have babies available in the spring and summer.
