Dubia Roaches (Blaptica dubia), also known as Orange-spotted Roach and Guyana Spotted Roach, are hands down the most common and favored feeder cockroach of all available species. And for good reason. Most insectivorous reptiles favor Dubia Roaches over Crickets, Mealworms, Waxworms and Silkworms any day of the week. In fact, many reptile enthusiasts consider them the best all around feeder insect, for many reasons; They don't fly, don't bite, aren't noisy (like chirping crickets), can barely jump, have a very low odor (way less than crickets - almost no odor at all), are very easy to breed, and can't climb smooth surfaces. Plus, if they somehow manage to escape, which isn't likely with the proper setup, you don't have to worry about them populating your house.
Being a tropical species, they usually do not survive outside their enclosure and die within just a few days due to improper temps/humidity and lack of food. Of course if you live somewhere where the temps and humidity are suitable (e.g. southern Florida), that won't be the case. However, they're still slow enough to catch, nonetheless (another benefit!).
Most importantly, what makes the Dubia Roach so attractive to reptiles and reptile enthusiasts, is their nutritional value.
